Ponder Wonder

I woke up late today. It was almost 8am when I got off from my bed. But I haven't fully woken up right until the time I am typing this post. Kurang bersemangat lah ini hari. Just felt like surfing the net and do nothing but hey life have to go on right?

Hmmm. I saw some articles about one of my favourite artist. She said she was lucky to be involved with the music scene which don't require to be someone else and how her sounds should sound like.

Sometimes I wonder whether it is true that artist like this should ever exist in this business. Or maybe it was just a statement to prove that he/she is indeed a true indie artist.

Most of the pop scene that I know, they are "manufactured" to be a star. Their looks and sounds have been created to meet the demands of the current music market.

Back to being a true independent artist. How independent they are on deciding how their songs will turn out to be? Sigh. I am giving much thought about this because I am currently at the writer's block zone for writing lyrics these days.

I just can't write anymore. Totally a black out zone. Maybe I need to do some soul searching and more reading to get the magic back. Besides I am pretty much demotivated when I know some other artist really shine with their lyrics. How do they do that? Cinta Muka Buku song on Juara Lagu Finals..like uhm Hello..

Moreover being here in Borneo, we don't have enough folk/indie music scene platform to prosper. Over at the western side of this nation, a lot of platform and gigs for budding talents to shine. It seems there are less people who are into folk/indie music here. Even cinta muka buku also can gain interest just because the singer is from the west Malaysia. There are tons of other good music over here but we are just not over there to prosper.

Even Guba, the sabahan singer made it big over in west Malaysia. Or the band called HWC. Whatever local here who are with English songs usually will only get the smirk telling us off that some international stars are better than us. Or some worse cases getting laughed at. Hmmm, so much for supporting their own people. You know why K-Pop is a phenomenon now? In Korea, in their shops and shopping outlets, they only play their music. ONLY K-Pop and they don't really worship international stars.

I guess people over here only listen to Sumazau songs? Correct me if I am wrong but the taste of music over here is more about people with low self esteem trying to marry a rich/pretty lass. I might be wrong. There are other people with other taste of music but MOST of the people are like this.

Sigh, sigh and sigh. Should I conform to the society's interest about low self esteem and write a song about that as well?

Oriental Pop Culture

We have K-Pop, J-Pop and what not Pop-ing around. Yet the influence is infectious.

Some striking similarities are;

1) Band names are mind boggling

Take Super Junior, 2NE1, DBSK, or even After School. Maybe one group will come up with the name Kimchii next time. Nama sayur tu..LOL

2) They look insanely good looking.

Well, I can say most of them are. From the kawaii ultra cute look to the sassy or dashing look. Those perfect hair, perfect nose. Just don't be too naive to think it is all au' naturale. Cosmetic surgery is very big especially in Korea. Having your nose done is just like walking to a hair saloon and getting your hair washed.

3) They sound generic.

After a song or two, you can definitely hum to almost any songs. After all pop songs are meant to be catchy and predictable in a way. One thing that I see a bit different between K-Pop and J-Pop, K-Pop tend to sound more mature than the latter. My personal opinion anyway, people will disagree as well.

Nonetheless, on top of all this sugar coating and to make everything nice...what matters at the end of the day is how marketable they are.

And surprisingly they do! They sell very well.

Hehe.

Currently am hooked with this group.

orang ketot? ka pindik?

I got a phone call this morning

Caller: May I speak to Ms. Joan please?
Me : Yes, speaking
Caller : Oh yea, I am calling from the ****. We received your entry for one of our competition. You are based in Sabah now?
Me : Yes
Caller : Ic ic, may I confirm your height again?

Me : It's 153cm.

Caller : Uh.in feet and inches that will be..

Me : Almost 5 feet 1 but just say I am 5 foot nothing

Caller : Is that with or without heels?

Me : Of course without la.. (bodoh punya orang mana got people measure heights with heels on!)

Caller : oh..well, the requirement for Miss Earth Malaysia is at least 5' 4".
Me : Uhm..I fill in the form for Miss Intercontinental not that. and they didn't mention about height requirement when I read the info about Miss Intercontinental

Caller : It's the same paegant..So, do you still want to participate? It's all up to you

Me : Nah, I'll pass...


hahaha..I found this conversation earlier this morning was very amusing. I filled in the form online out of boredom after googling about malaysian beauty paegants. Then, who knows, the organizer is SO productive that they called me despite a "ketot" person had filled in the form.

Well, I filled in a form for a very wrong competition for people my size. But, what I can't understand these days is that the cultural based beauty competition like Unduk Ngadau is so laced with perception that the contestants should be or look like the major commercialized beauty paegants.

I suppose a decade ago, these preference on height for Unduk Ngadaus was not SO great. But now, once you are "pindik" you are out of the league. Where as in the first place, the Unduk Ngadau was held to remember the sacrifice of Huminodun and the selection of the fairest-of them-all should be based on realization of the Huminodun's character. and NOT all about height! Who in the world has the proof that the legendary character was tall. It is just the pressure of the world making height as part of the parcel of being beautiful.

" Dia lawa ba tapi pindik..aahahaha..kesian kan" "Doi, salah ba pertandingan dia masuk ni..patut masuk ratu orang kerdil ba" "Ah, nda bulih dia manang tu..bukan tinggi pun..pindik jak."

Believe it or not, this is what you will hear most during this time of the year. Been there done that, pedas telinga dengar...Especially during kaamatan.

p.s: no one wanted to be born with those height characteristics, it was just given by the Almighty and we have to live with that. So don't discriminate

why is it called mary jane?

An American term for a kind of strap shoe or sandal. In the past, typically it has low heels, broad and rounded closed toes. Usually worn by young girls but in modern times, it is worn by all ages. Formal wear if worn by girls, informal for women..

Hmmm.which category do I belong to eh? ahahahaha

this look like my shoes when I was in high school...guess this is for the girls

this is HOT! minus the blue hues on the heels la...apart from that this pair is to die for...gotta get one of these soon..

on another note, lately...>

*everytime I stare to the computer screen, my eyes started to swell with tears...why this?? ~mata penat ka?~

*as it is almost the end of the semester and just counting the days to school break, there is nothing much to do at school. ~am so damn bored~

*it seems that everything is BORING ~this include eating, sleeping, exercising...~ practically everything

*time pass by very slow..indeed VERY SLOW!

*this is the first time that I felt so bored even though I got access to the net and could watch cable anytime I can

*stagnant..that's the word.

*again, why is it called Mary Jane??

bus of death- moments of at the wrong time and place

Condolences to the families of the victims in the accident in the wee hours of yesterday. The accident was a total tragedy. I was on my way heading North (using a bus also...huhu) as well and I guess *it could be or could be not~blur2 on that bus that time* I passed the area of the accident seeing people at the side of the road still cleaning debris even at that time was like 11am in the morning. But never did I expect that this was the accident up until I saw the papers today. A major one...really horrifying

Was talking about this incident today with my friends and then something struck me *the superstitious side of me calling maybe that*...I checked the bus plate number, studying the picture closely- and then I saw it..SHIT...it's ABK 79...that 79 number is such a bad combination ..*well for me la.*

Then that time my friend said..."Weh, don't say like that la...My boyfriend's brand new motorbike plate number got number 79 also.."

Just say I am being superstitious la but it is totally an unlucky number for me. The last car crash that I was involved in I think the plate number has a 79 combination in it. Bad things just occur in the presence of 79 la I guess. I remember one time, I was in KK. saw many 79 combinations on most car plate numbers that day and things didn't turned out well that day as many bad things happen. I am not sure whether this happen by coincidence and am making such big fuss out of this ... maybe but maybe not as well

this 79 also has connection with the number 13. Which most culture and people think it is unlucky. But, guess what...the accident happen on August 13th. and that's why yesterday when I have to travel on that date and it is so to happen that my seat is 13, it made me worried sick till I prayed before the journey starts. Given the trauma of last car crash before and the bad vibes that am feeling on the date, I sort of became paranoid for a while. Now, with this news came- such a tragedy...Again, I will never underestimate my instinct in the future.

Uhm...and I heard one of the victim who died was a USM student, he was on his way to Penang for his convocation. *God bless all the souls*

Whether 13 is actually an unlucky number or not will forever remain a mystery. There are many truths about the number 13, though. For example, it is a prime number. A Fibonaci Number can be defined as "a number that is the sum of the two preceding numbers." If you begin with 0 and 1, the sequence would run 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,45,79, and so on.

Negarakuku- what's wrong with that?

THE Star report something on the Negarakuku today..joining all the other media in the joy of informing the nation with the hot issue done by someone far away in Taiwan. *ok, he is Malaysian though*. Famous song it has become. Yesterday went pasar malam also got the song playing in the loudspeakers, but dunno its for sale or not or maybe this Namewee has launched an album.hehehe..Can see that lots of people are blogging about this matter as well..hehe. So I want oso la.

I am proud to be Malaysian!

Frankly, I dunno what is the problem with the song being composed in such way. Why most people are fretting about it? Hmmm..Maybe some people* like the Government people* cannot kena "jentik" this way. With the election on the way, it wouldn't look so good to them with the existing situation in this country. But come to think of it, those things mentioned in the song are from the perspective of a Malaysian who belong to a group which doesn't really get the equal treatment from the government. Ok ...don't get me wrong here. I enjoy my status as a bumiputera but why they shud be a status quo like this?


This status quo maybe a big issue and there are so many things that are connected to it which made it kinda complicated. But just ponder about this, *my personal thought-not meant to be agreed by anyone*-the benefits given by the government to the bumiputera is good but can't they distribute the advantages evenly to other non-bumis as well? For example, the monetary funds for those who want to further the studies shud be given based on their family income and status and not because u have the BIN, BINTI, SITI, ABDUL, etc in ur name..


Maybe it will be hard to let everyone compete at the same level and stage in this country because the nation do not want the society to have economic gap that is so severe. But after 9 RMK's the problem is still there. Is that an effective plan or just a damage control plan?

The theory of evolution has proved that it is done through selection and survival of the fittest. One type of being with different characteristics modified themselves through generations to be fitter and stronger in order to survive... And in the environment and ecological system this happen without any RMK's and special status. Mother nature has showed us how to survive in this world. But why we ignore it?

I guess some beings evolved as well, but over the years, it is the evolution-gone-wrong happened...That is why now we have Mat Rempits, Minah Rempits, Very Happy HardCore Druggies and the list goes on :)

Mak Make Make-U Make Up!

Make up make up...u just dunno how these little wonders can do to you. Yeah, I mean it..just take a look at these pictures. Even if you are naked make up can dress you up (and down) hehe. Fyi, the make up used for these is MAC cosmetics.. MAC rules!

and oh.. I dunno how many people are educated about the fact that TESTERS on make up counters...yes TESTERS. should not be tested on ur face.cos they are many ways to test make up by not putting on the face...because..of hygienic purposes.I mean imagine this, those testers or samples that were put on your precious skin especially on the face had been tested by not one but by many2 hands~and God only knows what those hand had been touching before...EWWWWWWW!

NOt onli dat, the other day I went Watson at CP, there is a bunch of girls putting on make up...well not using THEIR make up but using the tester in WAtSOn...dolling themselves up inside the shop WITH the testers...ewwwwww..and walk out with face full of contaminated make up...hahaha ..so much of wanting to be BEAUTIFUL...they are also BACTERIA-full! hehehe

why o why?

A trip to KK used to be breezy and easy. But now if i were to take the normal jalan from Tamparuli to KK..aiyo sakit kepala o..not onli dat the road is not smooth. the unexpected bumps and holes is SO agonizing. When its just about time I hit the gas pedal to go on 80km/h and more, suddenly I have to hit the break cos of the constructions. Kesian my tender breast (well thanks to the hormone cycle of women) sakit cos of the bumpy road. . . terumbang ambing to maintain its inertia..haha. .and summore where you can find somewhere that they call "highway" but there's a gravel patch somwhere and can make ur car shake as if there earth is moving on a Richter Scale...Why O Why? The road construction that is supposed to be finished by next month doesnt look like it gonna finish on time..and could prolong the agony of road users along Jalan Tuaran...

We live in a pathologically dissatisfied world. And I'm going to tell
you why. Because we love to compare. Go around the world and discover
that people aren't happy with their bodies.


Filipinos want to be fair-complexioned like Westerners, and so buy
bleaching stuff. Westerners want to own bronzed bodies like ours, and
so
purchase tanning lotions.


Those with moles have them removed, while those who don't strategically
implant beauty spots.


Some people want to shed a few pounds to look like Ally McBeal, while
others want to gain some baby fat to look like Drew Barrymore.


When are we ever going to stop and simply be happy with how we look?
We live in a sick world. I tell you. And that sickness is
comparisonitis. Take a look at wealth. When we drive our old Toyota , it
really suits us fine. We feel blessed in fact when the rain pours
outside and we feel snug and cozy on its faded upholstered seats.


But the moment we see our own officemate (or neighbor, or buddy, or
cousin, or brother) drive his sleek sky-blue, four-door,
four-wheel-drive Rav4, we automatically feel like third class children
of God.
Next time we drive our bumpy, noisy, rusted, dilapidated Toyota (notice
how all the defects come out all of a sudden?), we feel deprived,
dispossessed, pariah, debased, and only a little higher than the
insects
of the earth.


Listen carefully. Bill Gates' total assets are worth $60 billion.
That's more than the GNP of some small countries. Tiger Woods earns $80
million simply by smiling on TV in a Nike shirt. And the stars of the
sitcom Friends are paid $50,000 per episode! My point? No matter how
hard you work, there'll still be some people who will be richer than
you
are.


And there'll be some people who will be more beautiful, have more sex
appeal, have more boyfriends/girlfrie nds, and have more problems.
Try it for once. Stop looking around. Don't compare!


Don't compare her nose with your nose.
Don't compare his wife with your wife.
Don't compare his salary with your salary.
Don't compare her breast size with your breast size.
Don't compare her kid's report card with your kid's report card.
Don't compare his prayer group with your prayer group.
Don't compare her/his cellulite deposits with your cellulite deposits.


Stop comparing and start living and you'll be happier with your life.


This is crucial: The most difficult thing in the world is to be who you
are not. Pretending and trying to be someone else is the official
pastime of the human race. (I don't think dogs and cats and cows and
horses have this problem).


And the easiest thing in the world is to be yourself.
Be happy. Live!


There must be a reason why God made you tall or short or fat or thin or
bumpy all over.


Love who you are!
